Here’s to getting up, going out, and exploring the snowy paths of our lives … from The Writer’s Almanac this morning:
SNOW: I
by C.K. Williams
All night, snow, then, near dawn, freezing rain, so that by morn-
ing the whole city glistens
in a glaze of high-pitched, meticulously polished brilliance, every-
thing rounded off,
the cars submerged nearly to their windows [...]
Waking up to snow here in NH, and the big decision is when to go do the food shopping. (Never is not an option.) Rather than answer that burning question, I just lost myself for @ half an hour noodling around on the web looking for things to write about. I landed amongst a bunch [...]
Check MatchTracker this morning at 11 ET to follow the USWNT vs. Norway in the final game of group play over at the Algarve (where, presumably, it is NOT snowing)!
The US is already in the championship game as a result of their two previous wins, however this should be interesting, as they’ve not seen Norway [...]
Congratulations to the Twin Valley Flyers Peewee Hockey Team on winning the NH State Championship yesterday afternoon, defeating Back Bay in OT to take the trophy. (And it was our own Mo, of March Madness fame, who tipped in the winning goal!) Well done, Flyers – and thanks for an exciting weekend of great hockey [...]
This morning it is NOT snowing – but there’s still plenty of digging out to do here in NH. It’s nice, light, fluffy snow – the kind where the rewards of shoveling far outweigh the costs. (Only challenge is finding some place to PUT the stuff – the mounds are so high.)
I find myself thinking [...]
Wow – it’s been a busy first part of the day, between working on the snow … and recovering from an afternoon/evening of beer-tasting, chiminea-watching, and hanging out. Paula LR and HollyCornblog discussed the finer points of ffootball … and we marveled at the intricacies of the game. We all reminisced about growing up years, [...]
So here we are back at Tuesday again! I managed to get myself onto the treadmill this morning, and so am feeling quite cocky and proud of myself!
Let’s see what’s out there in the news this morning. We’ve got polls showing that the majority of Americans are supporting Obama’s decisions on the economy — and [...]
This is DaddyCornblog back in 1980, rooting for the Ron Jaworski, Dick Vermeil, Wilbert Montgomery version of the Eagles. We’ve got the photo by the TV, where Daddy C patiently waits for the game to get underway. He was disappointed in 1980, sadly.
He died on December 19, 1994 – the day after the Giants knocked [...]
Fingers crossed here for another good NFL day for the bird teams. The Ravens I had with a win. But the Cardinals? Wow. I just hope they didn’t steal the Eagles’ mojo. (Nah … an unworthy thought to be having this snowy NH Sunday.) If Ravens can bring down Titans, certainly Eagles can bring down [...]
So how’s tricks this snowy morning? Nearly everything in Central NH looks to be closed … except work, of course. Off I go shortly.
But first a few tidbits, starting with Celine Dion. Yup, Celine. My friend Sheryl has promised to root for the Eagles if I post a video clip of Celine singing with a [...]
Have you been having trouble this week keeping track of what day it is? I’m not complaining about the Thursday Holidays, mind you – but it’s made for some serious disorientation. Nice and quiet at work, though. I’ve been digging through things I hadn’t gotten to for months, and my in-box is down to just [...]
Amazingly (to me) – but then again, not (not really) the Eagles lost yesterday to the Redskins. Meanwhile, the Patriots were dominant … and in the Phantastic Phootball Phanatics’ Phantasy Phootball Phinal, this was Pliny’s Phavorite moment … as PhatCats went on to Phinally Phlummox her … (Nice foto!)
RPE will be home shortly [...]

Caroline Kennedy is beginning to articulate some of her positions, as noted in this article from the NY Times. While I like what I know of her, and am in agreement with her stated positions, I do find this run somewhat puzzling after a lifetime of pretty adamant privacy. She comes across as much more [...]
My goodness gracious … America’s team lost to the Baltimore Ravens last night … giving the Eagles a slightly larger sliver of hope for making the play-off’s (as they meet the Redskins at 4:15). Derrick Mason played a heckuva game (why do I want to say “Brownie” all of a sudden?). He was pretty much [...]
First off — thanks to Alice and Stephen for the compelling discussion of Obama’s choice of Rick Warren for his inauguration. Time will tell, I suppose, whether Obama is backing away from promises or working toward an inclusiveness that is, at the moment, feeling disheartening and frightening. After the hope-to-disappointment trajectory of the Clinton years, [...]

While Hillary and Obama duke it out in some of those “other” primary states, we’re distracted by weighter matters here in Central NH. Today, we are a mere twenty inches away from breaking the all time (recorded) snowfall record … probably less after yesterday. My back can attest to the enormity of the accomplishment … [...]
