Hmmm – the usual internet issues this morning – and an e-mail from FairPoint indicating that my webspace is now available. Hey FairPoint – it ain’t my webspace that’s the problem. Could you maybe help me with the little e-mail issue that I’ve now contacted you about TWICE? (Never mind the time spent waiting on the phone – and trying to contact you via that Chat link that you told us to use … all to no avail.) FairPoint – I’m not liking you so much these days. Hmmmm – wonder if I should start a Facebook Group – FairpOint Haters. Bet there already is one.
Anyway – miscellaneous stuff this AM:

- Also from The Offside (something I missed – probably because of FairPoint) – the Canadian Women’s Team has a new coach – Carolina Morace. Love seeing women in these top posts. Best of luck to Team Canada (at least until they play the USWNT).
- Pia has named her 18-woman roster for the Algarve Cup.
“The U.S. roster features 13 players from the 2008 Olympic gold medal champions, including three-fourths of the starting back line in captain Christie Rampone and flank defenders Heather Mitts and Lori Chalupny. With Kate Markgraf pregnant, Olympian Rachel Buehler and uncapped Kendall Fletcher will compete for playing time, although Shannon Boxx also trained at center back during the recently completed camp. Boxx has twice been named the MVP of the Algarve Cup (2004 and 2006). Buehler made her international debut last year at the Algarve Cup.
Sundhage named three relatively inexperienced midfielders to go along with Olympians Boxx, Lindsay Tarpley, Heather O’Reilly and Lloyd. Among midfielders Angie Woznuk (6 caps, 1 goal), Tina DiMartino (1/0) and Kacey White (15/0), only Woznuk has attended the Algarve Cup before, playing in two matches last year.
With forward Wambach not quite game-ready as she nears the end of her comeback from a broken leg, the striking responsibilities will fall to Kai, the USA’s leading scorer last year with 15 goals, young forwards Amy Rodriguez and Megan Rapinoe, and Olympic hero Angela Hucles, who can of course also play in the midfield. 2008 Olympics goalkeepers Hope Solo and Nicole Barnhart make up the remainder of the roster.
- Interesting to me that Lil is not on the roster – but apparently wanted to be. (Can’t find the article where I read that- but I’ll keep looking. Maybe check BigSoccer – where controversies are born!)
- Here’s a nice piece about new Breaker (and Lady Vol Goalkeeper) Jaimel Johnson. The Breakers picked her with the last pick of the draft – and she sounds very psyched to be joining the WPS and moving to Boston. “Johnson, who hails from Dayton, Ohio, made her mark on the record books at the University of Tennessee, where she became the only goalkeeper in the program’s history to be named NSCAA All-American.” Best of luck, Jaimel!
- Six new players have finalized contracts with Sky Blue FC … Brazilian Rosana, Australians Sarah Walsh and Collette McCallum, and Americans Cori Alexander, Keeley Dowling, and Jenny Hammond.
